The Quest (1st - 5th)

The Quest (1st grade – 5th grade)
Redding First’s Elementary Christian Education program is called “The Quest,” which is a completely different approach to Sunday School. Over a 3 week period children will learn the same Biblical story but through three vastly different ways of learning.

Because they repeat the same story several weeks in a row, and because the emphasis is on active learning, children have better recall of the story and a deeper understanding of its meaning. What’s more, children love coming to church – no struggling with your child to bring them to “Sunday School”… it’s The Quest!

Kids’ Church

PB & J - Pastor Beau & Jesus
between service time for parents to pick up kids

The Quest

All rotations include looking up and reading a passage from scripture, and work on memorization of a memory verse. Children go to one of the following stations each week:

Rotations:
Raiders of the Lost Art
- Loves and Fishes Cafe - HOLYWood Theater -
ACTS one, Scene Two -The "Go" Room

Raiders of the Lost Art – Art
In Raiders, children get to create!  Our emphasis is on encouraging children to create their own artwork, rather than copying a pre-fabricated craft in a few minutes.  We have created our very own renditions of “The Road to Emmaus” using watercolors, pastels, and charcoal.  We have sculpted with clay and made our own coat of many colors!  Or you might get to draw on our HUGE 8’x12’ whiteboard!  There’s no telling what you will make or do in Raiders!

Loaves and Fishes Café – Cooking*
Studies have shown that taste and smell are the two senses most closely linked to long-term memory. We cook up Bible learning by making foods mentioned in the story, that symbolize parts of the story, or where the cooking method emphasizes a Biblical truth.  The Loaves and Fishes Café is cooking up something fun every Sunday!

HOLYwood Theater – Cinema
Our 18 seat, stadium style, movie theater is a favorite place for children (and adults!) to learn. Children munch on freshly popped popcorn and watch a movie projected on a big screen complete with surround sound speakers -- giving them the feel of a real theater! The movies shown vary from live action to animated, but are all chosen to help kids apply the Biblical concepts and principles of the current rotation to their own lives.

ACTS One, Scene Two – Drama and Puppets
A ton of great activities take place here – all with a flair for the dramatic. Children use professional puppets or put on Bible costumes and act out the story.  All performances are video taped and watched at the end of the rotation.  The kids LOVE seeing themselves in their very own movies… and you will too!

The ‘GO’ Room – Service (four times a year)*
This room is designed for one thing only:  to get our children used to the idea of serving one another.  Four times during the year our kids will go out into the community and give of themselves.  They may go to a retirement home to sing a few songs, visit Living Hope Compassionate Ministries and help make lunches, or help with cleaning up someone’s yard… but whatever it is, you can be sure the children will be changed forever.
